Brian Abbas is the founder of The Abbas Law Firm, PLLC. He is a licensed attorney in Arizona and The District of Columbia. Brian believes that education and hard work are the keys to success. He will rarely say no to a new challenge, and enjoys pushing the bounds of his knowledge and creativity. He has spent time working with the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq and the United States Congress.
While working with the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, he dealt with a number of policy and compliance issues relating to the Kurds, International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), and Export Administration Regulation (EAR). Many of the responsibilities included tracking the political developments within the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, House Foreign Affairs Committees, and House Armed Services Committee. He was chiefly responsible for reporting on various federal regulations relating to international law, ITAR, and EAR. He was even responsible for drafting international procedural documents related to litigation occurring in Kurdistan; including creating an English subpoena which the Kurdistan courts use when summoning English-speaking witnesses or defendants.
While working on Capitol Hill, he spent time dealing with energy sector public policy issues for a U.S. Representative. He spent time advising staff about problems which may arise in transnational communications, and reviewed documents before their publication, such as letters to other congressmen and dignitaries.
He has spent time working on misdemeanor cases in a Public Defender’s Office; dealing with DUI (DWI) cases, assault charges, disorderly conduct charges, and others. He has acted as a third party neutral on many occasions and has experience mediating civil disputes.
Brian has a broad degree of interests and specialization. He has spent the majority of his academic career studying International Law and International Dispute Resolution.
The crowning achievement of his Master of Laws degree was his thesis International Arbitration Rules and Their Effect on the Merits of Energy Sector Disputes. This thesis examines the various arbitration rules used in International Energy Disputes and compares them to discern whether they contain provisions that may alter the outcome of disputes.
